Almshouses, Romaldkirk

Appointed by a Charitable Trust, under instruction by Managing Agents George F White LLP, the scheme was one to remodel three Grade II Listed almshouses into two larger properties, including improving their thermal performance, and renewing service installations.

The Works included thermal insulation to all external walls; new electric heating throughout; the provision of new bespoke double glazed sash windows and new external doors; refurbishment of Bathrooms and Kitchens; and, replacement of all floor coverings, and decoration. Externally, the roof was re-slated in Westmorland green slates including new leadwork to stone watertables and chimneys; tanking was applied to the rear walls to prevent damp ingress into the properties; new drainage and mains water supply systems were installed, including a new package sewage treatment plant; and, paths and stone garden walls were re-laid.

We provided architectural services from inception to completion, including the submission of a Listed Building Consent and Building Notice, provision of Contract Administration and Principal Designer services as required by the CDM Regulations. The project achieved Practical Completion in early 2024.
