History
The practice was established in 1979 by John Potter following a varied career with major architectural practices in London and the North East. Experience included work on nuclear power stations, schools in the UK and North Africa, manufacturing and production plants, and health and residential projects.

The practice has maintained a sound reputation for its architectural, consultancy and litigation work. Since its formation it has also become well known for a considerable expertise in roofing; both flat and pitched, to both new and refurbished buildings.

The production of technical literature for the construction industry was a core component of the practice’s workload until 1988 when a sister company - JPA TL - was formed to handle an increasing workload. The two businesses remain closely associated and now produce websites and CD-ROMs, and advise on e-commerce and electronic marketing to a number of companies including The Dow Chemical Company Ltd, Tarmac and DuPont de Nemours.

In 1985 JPA began developing a suite of specialist software for the construction industry to calculate the thermal performance of the building envelope and the likelihood of condensation. That software is now regarded as industry standard and is widely used throughout the UK and Europe and as far afield as China. We have now expanded our portfolio of programs to include software for the complex thermal and heat loss calculations required to demonstrate compliance with the UK’s Building Regulations for wind uplift calculations and estimating programs.
